The general conception in the collision industry is that all paint products are similar. That is simply not true. There are huge differences in technology. BASF Glasurit® and Diamont products were chemically developed at BASF laboratories to be used as a true basecoat-clear coat paint system. Most paint manufacturers have to add balancers and binders to their single stage toners to create their basecoat products. This decreases the coverage by up to fifty percent and creates an unstable basecoat. Glasurit® and Diamont are formulated using Polyester based technology, which eliminates the need for balancers and binders, creating a more stable basecoat and dramatically improving coverage. Polyester technology significantly reduces material costs to the shop.

BASF continues to lead the refinish industry in technology with the recent introductions of patented clear coats, which cure from the outer surface down, decreasing cycle time by half. A new direct to metal (DTM) undercoat, which can be used as a surfacer or a sealer without the use of adhesion promoters or etch primers, sprays direct to any substrate.
